Who are we?

At U-center we believe that everyone can gain a new perspective on life.

U-center is a mental health centre specialized in treating mental disorders such as depression, trauma and anxiety as well as addiction and personality disorders. We believe that these conditions can best be treated together in an integrated and personalized programme of treatment, in a comfortable and inspiring environment. The programma consists of 7 weeks inpatient care.

Director of U-center

Els van Bezouwen, MBA

Els studied Business Administration at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Els started out as a nurse in acute care and has years of experience working with and managing professionals within healthcare organizations, including Antes Zorg B.V. (part of Parnassia Group). Over the years she has also built up a large network within (forensic) mental health care, addiction care, the Public Prosecution Service, the police, municipalities and various security regions.

Team U-center

U-center has around 170 staff, mainly comprised of our treatment team of psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, doctors, therapists, sociotherapists, physiotherapists, professional therapists and our communication center colleagues.

U-center’s support departments comprise employees from our service center, kitchen and restaurant staff, maintenance and technical services, administration, finance, hrm, planning, marketing and IT. Our team members work with passion and compassion. Our style is characterized by charm, healthy realism and sobriety.

Works Council

U-center has an enthusiastic Works Council, representing the interests of the employees. They are also involved in important changes in the organization and, among other things, contribute to matters that are important to clients and the quality of the treatment. The Works Council consists of members of various teams within U-center, from facility to treatment staff.

Client Counsel

We set up a Client Council in the knowledge that the best people to give us feedback are our clients. Comprising five members, the council is actively engaged and involved in developments at U-center.

Supervisory Board

U-center works according to the Governance code for care in the Netherlands. Our Supervisory Board ensures that U-center’s policy and operations are carried out correctly. The Supervisory Board provides advice to U-center’s management when necessary. It has three members:

Chairman - Mr. Simon Bambach Simon Bambach has had a long career as CCO, Vice-President, and Executive Board member at Philips Enabling Technologies (CCO) and at VDL (VP North America and member of the Executive Board). He also has experience as a supervisor in (private) healthcare and in Private Equity. Simon Bambach was appointed as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of U-center Holding B.V. on July 1, 2022.
Member - Dr. Suzy Matthijsen Suzy Matthijsen is a clinical psychologist and content manager at Altrecht Academic Anxiety Center (TopGGZ). She is also Head of Research for Anxiety, Compulsion & Trauma and obtained her PhD from Utrecht University. She has experience as a researcher and co-promotor. Suzy Matthijsen was appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board of U-center Holding B.V. on July 1, 2022.
Member - Mr. Amon van den Borg Amon van den Borg is an entrepreneur and executive at Arts & Zorg. He has also held various executive positions at Zorgapotheek Nederland, Independer, and Simed. Previously, he had 15 years of experience in national and international functions at the Marine Corps. Amon van den Borg was appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board of U-center Holding B.V. on July 1, 2022.

Important arrangements

Quality standard

U-center works with the professional standard adopted in 2016 by the Board of Directors of Zorginstituut Nederland, the Mental Health Care Quality Statute (GGZ Kwaliteitsstatuut). GGZ Nederland is the association of mental health care providers in the Netherlands. The quality standard sets out what mental health care providers must arrange regarding quality and accountability in order to be able to provide curative mental health care under the Netherlands’ Health Insurance Act (Zorgverkeringswet). The model quality standard completed by a healthcare provider guarantees that the right healthcare professional delivers the right help to the right place, within a professional and qualitatively responsible network. In this way, U-center promotes appropriate mental health care.

Whistleblower policy

A governance code applies to organizations in the Dutch healthcare sector. This code means that U-center B.V. is accountable for alleged reported irregularities and abuses within the organization by employees and others who are in a contractual relationship with U-center B.V. without prejudice to the legal position of the whistleblower. A notification and whistleblowers policy must be adopted for this purpose, with the aim of contributing to the improvement and, if necessary, correction of the organization's own functioning.

U-center’s whistleblowers' policy has been drawn up in accordance with the whistleblowers scheme for Branch Organization Care (BOZ). It was adopted by U-center’s Supervisory Board on 29 November 2012 thereby giving effect to article 3.1.5. of the Netherlands’ Care-wide Governance Code (Zorgbrede Governancecode).

Of course we do everything we can to help, guide or treat you as well as possible. Yet it can happen that you are not satisfied or have a complaint. In such a case, please let us know and contact the complaints officer at U-center.
